PARALEGAL POSITION:  We had a difficult time trying to decide if this “high tech “ method for getting top notch, bright applicants would be successful.  We were concerned that we might wrongfully be accused of not being “personal” or snobbish about being too computer literate.  Ultimately, we decided that the people we were looking to hire should have enough basic knowledge to figure out how to get to this point, and they should be able to obtain their application on the Web.

Congratulations, you made it so far!

If you have any questions about this process and you need to call us, please do so.  We do not want to seem cold or impersonal.  Three years from now you will say that we either were at the cutting edge by using the Web to help process our applications, or, if it turns out to be too much of a “turn off,” you can say “I told you so.”  We do understand that interviewing for a new job, like the practice of law, involves “people” interaction, so we will get to that part later.

If you need to call, please wait until after you have read the rest of this page.  Thereafter, we will make ourselves available to you.  Our main line is 305-673-9399.  Our fax number is 305-673-9499.

Rather than wasting everyone’s time, please make sure that you meet our minimum requirements for submitting an application.  You will make better use of your time by focusing your efforts on another job, if you do not meet these minimum requirements.  You will also be wasting our time by forcing us to look at your application when you will not be hired.  We do not want to discourage anyone who does meet our minimum requirements, so please read on!!  If you believe that there are some really special circumstances that would cause us to consider someone who does not meet these qualifications, then you may also proceed further.

The currently available position is for a paralegal trainee.  Without all the fancy jargon, you will start in a secretarial position, with heavy typing, client and court contact.  You will learn the in and outs of civil litigation and family litigation, which is not always civil!  Typical cases could be divorces, child custody and support, foreclosures, suits based upon breach of contract, fraud, specific performance or other matters generally relating to business or family law.  You will learn how to process documents with the Secretary of State, such as filing new corporation, partnerships, and LLC’s.  The Firm also handles real estate transactions, such as closings or refi’s.  You will have an opportunity to grow with the Firm.  We are now expanding and expect to add more personnel in the near future.  We expect to be a full service firm for litigation, real estate, business entities and wealth protection.  We usually open at 9:00 and close at 5:30.  However, we also offer flex time.  There is a 1 hour lunch break.  Most, but not all bank holidays are taken.  Vacation is two weeks per year, after 1 year.  It grows 1 day for each year of service, to a maximum of 3 weeks paid vacation.

Before calling us or filling out our Application for Employment, you must meet all of requirements below:

  1. We are located on Miami Beach.  We have flex scheduling starting at 8:00 a.m., but you must be able to arrive no later than 9:30 a.m.    Our office is at the foot of the Julia Tuttle Causeway, which is the same as the east end of I-195.  We are at the intersection of Arthur Godfrey Road (41st Street) and Alton Road.  We are near Mt. Sinai Hospital.  If it will take you more than 35 minutes to get to your new job (our office) then, we are sorry, but it will not work out.

  2. We have a smoke free environment.  If you smoke, don’t get burned, but we can’t use you.  Hopefully, you do not smoke and you should read on!

  3. You must be a fast typist.  We require that you be able to type a minimum of 75 words per minute -  the first day on the job.  This job requires a lot of typing.  If your typing is not currently at this level, there are two options.   Option 1:  If you can type at least 50 wpm, then you should consider applying for a Paralegal Assistant position.  The Paralegal Assistant will not handle litigation files directly, but will assist a Paralegal with telephone calls, letter writing, filing, photocopying and other general office work. Based on your performance and improvement in typing speed, we may choose to train you for the Paralegal position.  Please indicate on your application whether you are applying for the Paralegal  or  Paralegal Assistant position.  Option 2:  Save our information and check back with us when your speed is at this level.  We anticipate growing and adding staff over the next year.

  4. You must have a strong command of the English language.  If you speak a foreign language, that is great and will be a plus for this job.  However, you must be able to compose simple letters in English, that are grammatically correct.  The letters and other documents you prepare or edit, are expected to contain no spelling mistakes.  Of course, you can use the built in spell checker.

  5. You must have a minimum of 7 years experience as a secretary, administrative assistant, manager or another similar position that required typing, dealing with people, and handling responsibility.  If you do NOT have 7 years experience, but you have at least 5 years experience working full time as a secretary or bookkeeper,  then you may apply for the Paralegal Assistant position.

  6. You must have lived in South Florida for at least one and one half (1½) years.

  7. You must have verifiable, past work references.  If the company closed or moved, you will need to find out where we can contact them – especially your supervisor or the owner.

  8. You must be a “people person.”  If you have noticed that you did not get along with more than 1 or 2 of your previous co-workers or the customers or clients of your employers, then it probably won’t be any different now.  Therefore, you must be easy to get along with and understand that clients do not come back when they have not been treated professionally and with the respect they deserve.

  9. Since you are now reading the 9th and final requirement, you probably possess the talent to meet the last requirement.  You must be bright, quick and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.  This job requires that you think and make your own decisions.  Of course, we will train you, but you must possess these inner qualities.  Once you're up and going, you will be in a position of being a decision maker.

If you are still reading, then we’ll bet that you're ready to apply for that special job which will change not only your career, but maybe your life.  This is a special opportunity that is not available to everyone.  However, if you’re ready to go, then lets roll!!
